Today, for the first time, I made the journey from my childhood home to my first apartment. As I make this transition to living on my own, and the transition to moving from rural, southwestern Pennsylvania, I am both nervous and excited for all of the prospect this summer may provide!

After making it to my residence and getting my keys, the reality that I would be responsible for surviving in an expensive city, on my own, for the next ten weeks sunk in...

To anyone else trying to live in a city on a budget, these grocery tips are for you:

1. Do your research - find out what store are near you, which stores validate parking if you have the means to drive, and if the store offers a perk card/app.

2. Download the perk app/ apply for the savings card

3. Make a list AND follow the list - the easiest way to blow your grocery budget is to go in without a game plan

4. In making a list, consider making your weekly menu and meal prepping. The easiest things to meal prep are large quantities of versatile foods. If you plan accordingly, you can live on a budget with out giving up the quality of life you're used to having when you live at home.
